An Effective objective needs to meet basic criteria:

  • Is it commercially worthwhile? – Do the benefits increase profitability or have another beneficial outcome versus cost of the research
  • Is it definite and concrete? The objective must be precise and clearly stated
  • Is it achievable? Not allowing sufficient time nor budget to complete the research programme leads to poor results
